[SOLVED] video issues after replacing cpu/mb and video card

Post by gurutech » 2021/08/24 03:27:33

Long story short, lost my computer in a house fire. Was able to save the hard drives, and they are both working fine. Put them into a new system, and the system will boot up (running Centos 8 Stream), and I can RDP into the machine with no problems, but it doesn't seem to boot all the way up to the "login screen" on the actual computer, like it did before.

I believe the issue is just that the hardware is too different, and Centos isn't able to detect the new hardware properly, or did but doesn't know how to handle the drivers or whatever. How can I initiate a "scan" of the new hardware so it will recognize the new video card and everything?

I'm currently seeing a flashing cursor on the monitor that is hooked up to the computer itself. I am RDP'd into the computer from my laptop and actually using it right now, albeit remotely.

Any assistance you can provide is appreciated.

update: a dnf update and reboot fixed it.
