8.3 minimal iso?

Post by luxtenebris » 2020/12/21 17:09:09

Hi all.

I just wonder if the minimal iso install image is definitely dropped in 8.3. I was not able to find it nor any announcement about it being dismissed. Searching for "CentOS-8.3.2011-x86_64-minimal.iso" yelds only a couple of pages, like https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/taski ... kID=185562, where it looks like the build process had somewhat taken place.

Thank you, regards
Luigi

CentOS 8 does not provide a "minimal" ISO, it has a "boot" one instead, i.e. CentOS-8.3.2011-x86_64-boot.iso . It should allow you to install over the network, even though I've had problems with the 8.3 specific one. The 8.2 one worked without problems.

Yes I'm aware of the boot image and how to use it. But like 8.2 provided the boot and the dvd1 image, it provided the minimal image too.
In 8.3 we have only boot and dvd1, and I just would like to know if it was a purposive decision, or only an oversight. For my needs, I felt comfortable with minimal, but I can use dvd1 too, only I'll throw away some usb memory kes.

The 8.2 minimal iso was broken in several ways and I believe there is still an intent to supply one for 8.3 but I think the team are looking at whether it can be unbroken first!

You could raise a bug on bugs.centos.org ...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Oh no, it's an overkill. I'll use my old 2/4 GB usb sticks for something else and pick a larger one for C8.
