CentOS 8 freezes randomly during USB drive I/O

If I connect an external USB drive and start copying some large files from there the UI freezes randomly for a few seconds every 10-15 seconds, even mouse pointer cannot move, which is incredibly annoying. Is there any way to avoid that?

I am experiencing this same problem
CentOS Stream 8 on 2017 HP Envy 15 (16 GB RAM, 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO)
