What browser are you using ?
Most youtube videos now default to vp9 and fall back to h264 mp4 if vp9 is not available
Open this page https://html5test.com/ under streaming video codecs you need to see a tick next to MP4 with H.264 support

I just checked and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDcc0g03H28 is only available as mp4, chrome, brave, midori and firefox will all play it.
Actually as youtube is google I'd use chrome, chrome for anything google, another browser for eveything else, google know enough about you already ;)
Or install mpv and youtube-dl and play from the terminal

Code: Select all

mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDcc0g03H28
and just use the browser as a search engine.

You need to install ffmpeg-libs from a third party repo like rpmfusion to make firefox play H.264 encoded videos.

Thanks. That works. How do I mark your post as a solution?

I've marked the thread as solved. I think you can do it too, by choosing to edit the first post.

Thank you but... some videos (much fewer though) still do not play. Are there any other codeks I need to install?
One example is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh9QwGSliAY
Interestingly enough in plays in Firefox but not in Chromium.
