Bash xxxx event not found

I have an error when I try to install a software using bash, any ideas?

A ! is a special character and needs escaping if you want to use it at the command line.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
