Centos 8 error (28) using yum

Post by Linwizzle » 2020/10/20 20:19:23

Hello all,

I'm a new user with Linux in general so I'm hoping this is an elementary question. I'm working on a Centos 8 machine that was recently pixie booted. No matter what I try to do using the yum command (be it install, update, anything) I receive the error.

"CentOS Base
Errors during downloading metadata for repository 'internal-base':
-Curl error (28): Timeout was reached for http://10.120.1.4/repos/centos8.x/BaseO ... repomd.xml [Connection timed out after 30001 ms]
Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'internal-base': Cannot download repodata/repomd.xml: All mirrors were tried"

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your admin has either edited /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo and changed it to point to an internal CentOS mirror on 10.120.1.4 (i.e your own copy) or has overridden DNS for mirrorlist.centos.org to point to that ip address. Your local mirror is not working so you would need to track down who maintains it and get them to fix it.

Thank you for your response. I'm the root account on the device, is this not something that I can edit myself?

Since it seems that repository "internal-base" has usability problem, then one could start by disabling it:

Code: Select all

sudo dnf config-manager --disable internal-base

If this custom config is not your doing, then you should communicate with the other admin who did it.
At least to let them know that their local mirror has an issue.
