problem to mount hdd on live cd

Post by go11um » 2020/10/13 13:12:15

Hi everyone, my old centos 8 installation doesn't work anymore, so i want to install it again. I have some data on this HDD so before formating it i would like to save my datas. I prepared a live cd of centos 7 (couldn't find one for centos 8) and restarted on it.
My problem is that now when i try to mount the HDD on which is my old centos 8 (and the data i want to save) the livecd answer me this :
"Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sda1: Command-line `mount "/mnt/4d7038b4-0864-4860-bb7d-801e1dab0308"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so."

Do you have any idea how i could fix that ?
Thank you ! :D

Sounds like the xfs filesystem in el8 is newer than el7 understands. Boot the el8 dvd iso in rescue mode (an option off the troubleshooting menu) and mount/copy it from there.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Thank you for your answer, it worked but i couldn't find how to copy the files on another HDD. I boot on a windows and used a linux reader soft to copy the files.
Anyway thank you for your answer ! :)
