I am trying to install CentOS 8 on a new desktop machine, very simple configuration:
- Gigabyte H470M DS3H motherboard
- 16 GB RAM
- Intel i7-10700 (onboard Intel UHD 630)
- Wifi PCIe Card
Console output is similar to shown here:
I then tried Fedora 32 installer, and it gets to the Installation GUI but CPU seems to be working very hard (possibly max-ing), mouse eventually stops responding, and cannot proceed with installation.
I then tried latest Ubuntu installer, in Live mode and it boots but very quickly the desktop locks up / becomes unresponsive, and hard reset is required.
So my best guess is something critical (eg chipset, CPU model) is not supported in the kernel, but this is not my area of expertise. The BIOS screen looks healthy / normal.
Can anyone confirm that the hardware configuration is / should be supported by recent Linux distros ? Or otherwise shed light on why I can't get a system running?
