KDE Numeric keypad problem

Post by bluegroper » 2020/08/08 03:11:17

Hi Forum
I'm using Centos8 with KDE Plasma 5.18.4
Recently I been having some bother with the numeric keypad.
NumLock is on by default.
Most applications work fine, except some selected KDE apps, such as kwrite and konsole which I use a lot.
Firefox, and LibreOffice in KDE work fine.
In kwrite and konsole, the numeric keys are working as arrow keys.
Please, is there some KDE setting that I should tweak or nuke to get this working as intended.
BTW, the terminal app (Gnome terminal) launched within KDE works fine.
Also, just to test, I created a new user, and the same KDE problem exits for the new user too.
So I'm thinking something is broken in the KDE setup, not just my user profile.
TIA's for any tips or clues.
I'm not a complete idiot. There's still a few pieces missing.

* UPDATE*

System Settings, Hardware, Input Devices, Keyboard, Hardware Tab :
I cannot type any numbers from the numeric pad in the Test Area, but the numbers in the regular part of keyboard work fine.
Numlock is turned on.
I've tried using Advanced, Miscellaneous compatibility options,
- Default numeric keypad keys
- Num Lock on: digits, Shift for arrow keys, etc
Still cannot get the number keys to work in the GUI.
If I login to cli (without any GUI) then the number keys work fine, so I'm not suspecting any keyboard hardware error just yet.
:x

Same situation in my installation - CentOS8 with KDE Plasma on my Lenovo IdeaPad 330S.
Gnome apps do not have problem with numpad, problem is probably in kde/qt libs.
Is it possible switch KDE to qt.io official Qt library distribution? If so how?
I've also another problem with accent letters - cannot put them into search field in launcher.

Since all of KDE in 8 is from EPEL, I would suggest raising bugs on bugzilla.redhat.com in the Fedora EPEL section to see if you can get the maintainer to look at it.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Submited new bug as you suggested:

Unfortunately, this bug is deal breaker for me. My day job involves heavy work with numbers.
KDE is also a "must have" since I constantly use konqueror and fish protocol.
Immediate choices appear to include :
- Reinstall with downgrade to CentOS 7. This still works fine.
- Reinstall with upgrade to latest Fedora. Tested KDE and numpad. All good there.
Any other suggestions ?

I'm wainting for bug solution by redhat. But KDE is actually not supported in RHEL/CentOS 8, so they will maybe not to solve it.
In this case I'll try
a) recompile Qt libs from CentOS 8 sources with right configuration,
b) use official Qt libs from qt.io ant try switch KDE in CentOS 8 to use them (I'm not sure if it is good idea and if it is possible).

It comes from EPEL and the EPEL maintainer should be supporting it. Report bugs via bugzilla.redhat.com in the Fedora EPEL section.

I'm trying to compile Qt5 from qt5-devel package (PowerTools repo). I'll tell the result.

Problem - do not know from where to load sources (.src.rpm). I've tried enable AppStream-source repo but without success.
I need qt5-qtbase-5.12.5-4.el8.src.rpm, ...
and then run rpmbuild --rebuild ...
