Is it possible to use JFS on CentOS 8?

Post by thevoice1017 » 2020/06/24 11:16:20

Hello,

I am in the process of migrating from CentOS 7 to CentOs 8.
I have an old develoment environment that uses case Insensitive file system JFS

I would like to format one of my drives as jfs

Does centOS 8 support jfs file system

Thank you in advance for your support
Robert

No, it doesn't but then neither does CentOS 7.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Yes. It was not supported on centos 7 officially but was able to find support from the forum to install.
I will look into this further.

I would think IBM will support this great file system rhel/centos releases.

I fedora supports it?

Checked and the jfs module is present in Fedora 32.

Kernels for centos 8 are built with :

Code: Select all

# CONFIG_JFS_FS is not set
So you have (at least) to recompile the kernel with CONFIG_JFS_FS set to m (or y) to use jfs.
