annoying bash shell messages at start-up

Post by lamps » 2020/06/08 03:58:05

Hello CentOS 8 community,

Bash shell is running on CentOS 8. Whenever opening a xterm window, the following messages are shown.
Whether or not these messages are related to CentOS 8 itself, I want to get rid of them. Are there any suggestions?
I would appreciate your input!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
bash: fg: no job control
bash: /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion: line 295: syntax error near unexpected token `('
bash: /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion: line 295: ` local cword words=()'
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You obviously have syntax errors in your "~/.bashrc" or "~/.bash_profile" and also in "/usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion" as your own post clearly shows.

Fix those errors and the messages will go away.
