Installing MATE from source
Installing MATE from source
Hello,
I found this very detailed guide:
https://tylersguides.com/guides/install ... -centos-8/
But before I go to the trouble of compiling from source, I thought I would ask if there is a repo somewhere with MATE.

Re: Installing MATE from source
Hello,
I followed this guide and I have MATE installed and running. But one problem I found was that I was unable to change the resolution of the monitor.
Has anyone else who have followed this guide run into the same problem?

Re: Installing MATE from source
I went with Fedora 32 instead...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Fedora has bridges far too often to my liking.
Re: Installing MATE from source
Hello,
I contacted Tyler at tylerguides and he said he would look into the problem with not being able the change display resolution.
In the mean time there is a workaround. Follow the directions at this site:

Re: Installing MATE from source
I made a request to add MATE to epel 8 but it was closed wontfix. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1844834
I also looked at making a request to rpmfusion, but because MATE is supported by Fedora, they wouldn't be interested.

Re: Installing MATE from source
There were two reasons I couldn't install Centos 8 on my Desktops. My Brother network scanner didn't work. I have since solved this problem, now I have one remaining issue of the MATE desktop. Although I did compile MATE from source using Tyler's instructions, the MATE produced has some problems. I decided to try a compile using the source RPMs. I have downloaded the source RPMs from Fedora 30. Has anyone compiled MATE from the source RPMs? There are many modules and was wondering the order in which to compile and also if you were able to get a fully functionally MATE.

Re: Installing MATE from source
Can you ask from those, who build MATE for Fedora?
PS. You have surely noticed how CentOS Linux 8 did change last December? That it's EOL is this year ...

Hi jlehtone,
I'll probably convert to AlmaLinux in December, so the work to get MATE to work won't be lost.
