Start by telling us how you did the install? Did you use a USB stick and if so, how did you create it?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

And when you get it running, it may be a good idea to run
it as a virtual machine, e.g. with virtualbox. Then you won't
run into this problem again.

Re: Installed CentOs 8 on top of windows 10
I don't want to discourage a Linux beginner, but perhaps CentOS is not the best operating system for daily desktop use. Not for a beginner. There are many, many more distributions that provide a level of hand-holding that make them more comfortable for a beginner's use. Particularly with GUIs. Particularly with dual-booting Windows and setting up GRUB.
If learning/using RPM-based distributions, *Fedora* would be a good recommendation, though it is a tad more advanced than some. It provides the upstream for future Red Hat/CentOS releases.
And there are many others.
Also: Please read the release notes/wiki pertaining to the USB ISO creation.

Which probably explains the problem you had. With certain options, rufus breaks our isos and makes them boot in legacy BIOS mode on UEFI mode hardware and the previously installed UEFI operating systems are lost. Se our wiki page for details of what others things NOT to use!I installed it using an usb stick and the software RUFUS

a server and my mentor want me to use it
This is my first experience out of laptops and windows I have no idea about sys administration
Re: Installed CentOs 8 on top of windows 10
Why don't you install in a VM instead? VirtualBox is free and runs on Windows and you can install CentOS in that without touching your existing windows at all.
