Is there a version of json compatible with php 7.2.11?

Post by rtcary » 2020/02/13 17:53:49

I have installed Centos8 with php 7.2.11 and need json for phpmyadmin.

yum install php70u-json

returns "unable to find..."

Suggestions welcomed...

Sounds like you have installed the wrong repo. Packages likes php70u are from the IUS Repo and I do not believe they are supplying packages for CentOS 8 as yet. If they did it's unlikely they'd supply an EOL php 7.0 version. You should remove the IUS repo from CentOS 8 if it is intended for CentOS 7. They are not compatible.

CentOS 8 supplies php as a module and as of 8.1, you can enable either php:7.2 or php:7.3 (but not both). Run dnf module info php:7.2 and you will see that it has php-json present.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
CentOS 5 has been EOL for nearly 3 years and should no longer be used for anything!

As always, I appreciate your guidance since I am not a Linux/Centos guru - just have it installed so I can test my php based website, usually using Samba.

My current complete install of Centos 8 came from an ISO, and I believe the php was part of it. Nevertheless, I did run dnf module info php:7.2 and as you stated, json is there. Do I need to uninstall my current version of php? If so, do I use yum for that or the newer dnf?

Thank you for your words of wisdom...
