Build SAMBA 4.11

Post by JudgeDredd » 2020/01/14 19:24:15

Hey,

today, i tried to build Samba from source by myself.
I followed the Tutorial from the wiki samba.org site.

OS: CentOS 8 (i think thats clear)
Samba: 4.11.4

All steps (configure, make, make install) finished succesfully, but after that, smb.conf file wasnt created. The Directory still exists (/etc/samba).
Further im missing samba.service, named.service and also winbind.service.

I remember that some years ago on CentOS 7 these things didnt happen.
So can you help me and explain, what iam doing wrong ?

thanks,
JudgeDredd

Why did you build from source?
CentOS 8 Base repo has samba-4.9 packages.

short answer ... because i can :D

no, seriously i want to build Samba by myself, because
1) newest available release
2) some configure options (e.g. --disable-cups --sysconfdir, etc.)

Did you already tried to build your own samba and did it work in your case ?
It would be nice if someone else can confirm, who successfully made it. So i could be sure thats not an issue of CentOS 8

if you build samba from scratch probably you need to create smb.conf, etc
