devtoolset-8 for CentOS 8

I am starting to setup a build environment to compile gnome-commander for CentOS 8. According to the instructions (which I wrote) on the g-c site, I need to install among other packages devtoolset-8. On CentOS 7 this was provided from the SCL repo which was configured using centos-release-scl. There does not appear to be any such repo for CentOS 8. At least I cannot find a package centos-release-scl, It is my understanding that SCLs are handled differently for CentOS 8 although I do not understand how. Can anyone give me a hint?

TIA,

Ken

The ordinary gcc included in CentOS 8 is already 8.2.1 so it's probably the same or higher than the devtoolset-8 on CentOS 7.

Thanks TrevorH,

Tweaking CentOS 7 to use the version 8 compiler was something new to me. Let me assume that CentOS 8 has the v8 compiler available and start looking for the other bits and pieces I need. That is always a treasure hunt

Current yum has "modules" feature. Upstream explains:
https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2018 ... ppstreams/
https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... -appstream

Thanks jlehtone,

I have come across appstrem but had not dug into it. Thanks for the references. My exposure to CentOS 8 to date has totaled about an hour. Most of that was to get xfce installed to give me a work environment which I could tolerate. At least I have 4 more years of CentOS 7 life to get 8 figured out :D
