Kickstart vs os repo

Post by co6user » 2019/10/29 19:31:18

Hi,

Found two repos for each group, kickstart and os.

For example:

Code: Select all

Kickstart version:
Index of /centos/8.0.1905/AppStream/x86_64/kickstart/Packages/
OS version:
Index of /centos/8.0.1905/AppStream/x86_64/os/Packages/
What are the differences between these two?

Kickstart is fixed at point release time. BaseOS now receives updates (there is no updates repo any more). It's for people that need to have a repeatable install on which to base a system. Most people should just install from the non-Kickstart version so that they pick up all the latest packages at install time.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
