FWIW - ran across a similar post in the CentOS 6 forums yesterday with a comment there that a bug was fixed and that update would take care of it.

Thanks for the info @lightman47! I guess you're talking about this post. If I understood correctly, that issue (which is similar but not the same) according to the bugzilla link posted, has been fixed in version 0.9.3, which I also have on my centos machine.

Unfortunately posting in fail2ban's github and owncloud forums didn't help, so I'd really appreciate it If anyone could guide me how to downgrade to version 0.9.1-4.

That seems to be the only version available for CentOS 7, sorry. I was one of those who pushed for it to be included in CentOS 6/7. Apparently, it wasn't fully tested as it should have been. I have given up using fail2ban long ago, but even if I hadn't, I doubt I'd have caught such a bug: There are simply too many configurations where fail2ban is used... Anyhow, this is just my consideration about pushing to get the latest and greatest in a distro that is supposed to be stable and foolproof, for what it's worth, and why I am sorry about it. Having said that, if I were you, I'd get the CentOS 6 source RPM and rebuild it for C7, but there are no guarantees...

Thanks for the details @giulix63. I've spent many hours (and I was about so spend more) trying to figure out what's wrong. I guess I'll have to stick with owncloud installed on the RPi, at least for the time being...
