Firefox

Why has CentOS not released an updated Firefox for the last two or three RedHat releases of Firefox?

$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 7.9 (Maipo)
$ rpm -qa --last | grep firefox
firefox-102.4.0-1.el7_9.x86_64 Thu Oct 27 17:43:34 2022

$ cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core)
$ rpm -qa --last | grep firefox
firefox-91.13.0-1.el7.centos.x86_64 Fri Sep 2 10:11:28 2022

It is being worked on but this build of firefox requires 3 separate devtoolset packages to compile and build all the components or the prereqs. For example, it requires devtoolset-9 10 and 12 and then it also needs a newer version of rust and a newer llvm (11 12 13 and 14!). So first it was required to build devtoolset-12 which did not exist at all, then the newer rust version needed to be built...

It's in progress still and is closer to release than it was. Rd Hat have the advantage of knowing what they used to build all this lot and also have them all available before they release the package. CentOS has to go back and reinvent the wheel.

There are several more updated packages that were released last week and these are also in progress.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
