hack3rcon, if you don't need heavy duty DNS (i.e., if you are not going to provide a public DNS service in the global Internet), I recommend you use "dnsmasq" instead of bind + dhcpd.

Code: Select all

# yum -C info dnsmasq
Loaded plugins: langpacks
Installed Packages
Name : dnsmasq
Arch : i686
Version : 2.66
Release : 14.el7_1
Size : 458 k
Repo : installed
From repo : updates
Summary : A lightweight DHCP/caching DNS server
URL : http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/
License : GPLv2
Description : Dnsmasq is lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP server.
: It is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network.
: It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global
: DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows machines
: with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names configured
: either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq supports
: static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of diskless
            : machines.
dnsmasq will do what you want just nicely.

Is it a automated tool?
If yes, I want to know that is it illegal for a Linux administrator?

I want to learn it from scratch and not via automated tools like Webmin and....

I don't know what you are talking about "illegal for a Linux administrator".

dnsmasq is a regular daemon with a regular plan text configuration file. Old skool all the way.

I see many professional Linux administrators use CL tools and not GUI or automated tools.

It is configured using a config file, not tools.
Please read the manual and the default config file.

I am not sure what you're trying to do exactly but there's a good tutorial on youtube that helps you get a grip on bind... go to youtube search for "danscources" and in his channel search for you linux and you will fine few good tuts over there.
