TPLink Archer T2E Card Not Working

Post by airbusman5514 » 2023/03/21 20:20:09

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I bought a cheap PCI Express WiFi card from Amazon and plugged it in. The card is a TP-Link Archer T2E card in the spare PCIe slot on my motherboard.

lspci -nn gives the following:

Code: Select all

[root@localhost rtl8821ce-master]# lspci -nn

The motherboard and CentOS seem to see something's plugged into that slot since it mentions 10ec:b821, which I think is what I'm supposed to be seeing. It uses a Realtek RTL8821CE chipset on board.

I saw forum posts for other Linux distros that mentioned an updated kernel could help, so I tried to upgrade to the 5.4 kernel from elrepo. Sadly this killed my Ethernet, so I'm stuck on 3.10 for the time being.

Anyone figure this card out? I'm not having much luck.

TIA

I think the module you need for that card is rtw88_8821ce.ko and the only way I can see to get that on CentOS 7 is to install the ELRepo kernel-ml package and boot into that. Hopefully it will still allow you ethernet access too since I see the r8169 module claims to support 10ec:8168.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
