Compatible chipsets

Hi all!

How i can to know what chipsets are compatible with CentOs 7?
Today i bought new desktop with Intel H510 chipset.. and couldn't install OS, becaus installer won't start. I see only black screen.

I use Os version specific software, and i need Centos version 7. Install KVM and use centos 7 under guest os doesn't look like good idea (:

Try the basic video option off the initial Troubleshooting menu you see when you boot the install disk.

H510 was released Q1'21. Last CentOS 7 feature update was Q3'20; it cannot have real support for hardware that appeared after that.

Containers are a lighter, and currently more "hot topic", than VM.

What specific details does the software check and require from the platform? That is, can you cheat it?

It's nothing to do with downloading. When you boot up the install media it present an initial menu with choices of "Install", "Verify media and install" and "Troubleshooting". It's that last option you want and inside that there is another option to install in basic video mode (wording may differ).

Make sure you are using the latest install media for CentOS 7. There was a respin of the media a few months ago and you can grab the 2207 version from https://buildlogs.centos.org/monthly/7/?C=M;O=D
