Centos 7 installer always boot into blackscreen

Post by tygh784 » 2021/12/16 20:47:48

I recently need to install CentOS 7 and tried to boot from boot-able USB.
But now it just goes in to black screen. the same boot-able USB can install CentOS successfully on another computer.

Can you shed light on if the CentOS 7 support my following config?

CPU: Intel i911900 with UHD750 graphic card.
motherboard: ASUS z590-i motherboard

How did you create the USB stick? See the link in my sig below to the wiki article detailing products that are known to corrupt the CentOS iso as they allegedly "copy" it to USB sticks.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I use the command

sudo dd bs=4M if=/path to iso of=/dev/sdb && sync

I tried different versions: CentOS 7 and CentOS 8. I can install CentOS 8 successfully(although very long boot). But CentOS 7 is what I need.

Is it possible CentOS 7 installer kernel doesn't support UHD750 graphic card?

There is a basic video (or words to that effect) off the initial Troubleshooting menu that you see when you boot up. Did you try that? I am assuming that you get that first menu, or does it fail before that?

Yes I tried that basic graphic option and that also boot into black screen. I also tried text mode. this also boot into black screen.

I press ESC, no response. ctrl+alt+f2 no response.

The same USB stick can install CentOS 7 on HP z2 G8 workstation with xeon 1390p processor.

what could be the possible issue? bios setting? does a separated video card help?

I'm afraid that with that level of detail on a problem report, no-one is going to be able to help you.

Start by hitting esc or tab (depends on whether your machine is legacy BIOS or UEFI) and removing 'rhgb' and 'quiet' from the kernel command line so that you can see anything that the kernel says. Try the basic video option off the Troubleshooting menu as well. Or package the machine up and send it to me and I will try it and once I've got it working you can buy another one and I'll tell you how to make it work... ;)
