No sound on my Predator Helios 500 / Ryzen 7

Post by tv01d » 2020/04/19 01:20:15

Hello !, I just installed CentOS 7 on my Predator Helios 500, and I have everything working except the audio, I tried many different things with no success, can you please give me a hand ?

I also tried to unmute the card in alsamixer, but no difference.

Also in pavucontrol there is no output, just "headphones", which actually don't sound either, and speakers output is "unavailable"

here are my outputs:

Code: Select all

aplay -l

Hello
Card 0 says
active profile: <off>
and all say "available: no"
Card 1 says
active profile: <output:analog-stereo>
If you're using hdmi, is it plugged in and speaker switched on ?
If it is you could try

Code: Select all

pactl set-card-profile 0 output:hdmi-stereo

thank you, I'm not using HDMI :(

how can I change the active profile to my speakers or headphones ?, I tried:

Code: Select all

pactl set-card-profile 0 output:analog-stereo
but it says, "Failure: No such entity"

in alsamixer I can see the chipset, is this, if it helps:
Chip: Realtek ALC299

hmmm
profile 0 is all hdmi, profile 1 is currently in use
active profile: <output:analog-stereo>
so I'm a bit baffled, you could try

Code: Select all

pactl set-card-profile 1 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo
pactl command is just the backend of pavucontrol where you say "speakers output is "unavailable"
What's the output of

Code: Select all

pactl list sinks
I have "Active Port: analog-output-speaker"
Edit: one more you could try

Code: Select all

pactl set-sink-port analog-output-speaker
Just another thought

Code: Select all

start-pulseaudio-x11
any errors ?
I'm still thinking there's a conflict between the 2 cards somewhere.

for set-sink-port analog-output-speaker

Code: Select all

set-sink-port analog-output-speaker
You have to specify a sink name/index and a port name
and lastly

Code: Select all

start-pulseaudio-x11
Failure: Module initialization failed

I'm guessing that's your problem there.
Do you have pulseaudio-module-x11 installed, I would have thought this package comes with the centos iso unless you started off with a minimal install.
Strange it says

Code: Select all

analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority: 9000, available)
Do headphones work ?
Other than that I'm fresh out of ideas.

headphones don't work, I can just get sound from bluetooth devices, but not from speakers/headphones, pulseaudio-module-x11 is installed

I guess the only solution is to resintall or change kernel ..
thank you anyways!

I fixed the sound in the speakers by using hda-jack-retask to indicate the jack is disconnected.
This is because it seems the driver doesn’t detect the headphone connection correctly.
Now I need to fix the headphone, I just have sound on the internal speakers, but it's a lot already!

Do you absolutely need centos 7? why not try centos 8, its possible it has a bit better hardware support for your particular hardware.

I would like to try again, but the last time I installed CentOS 8 I had many issues with libraries I needed to install maya and also getting OpenCL working in my AMD GPU, I only managed to install this in 7 : /
