Hi,

I think you would better check things as follows:

1. check if USB2Serial adapter is working on other device which already verified for UART output.
2. check if serial outputs would be, with verified USB2Serial adapter.
3. check whether it require cross cable or not, which means Tx/Rx line could be swapped.
4. check if BautRate is correct, even incorrect BaudRate, they would output some unknow characters.
5. If you don't use Serial PHY(RS232C) on that target board, which means connected with UART with TTL level, you could require level converter for your target board.

Arrgh!!! Please accept my apologies for wasting your time but I appreciate it. I found a solder bridge on the carambola board. Sheesh!
