Firmware bugs are the norm and linux works around them. Otherwise very few machines could run linux.

While we are at it: why didn't you simply disable the dGPU in the BIOS? The way you did it, it still draws power.

I don't think there is the GPU disabling option in the ASUS BIOS. Besides, I'm now glad to be able to move on with what really matters (FPGAs), while the power consumption of the design platform is of less importance - I have the wall power plugged in most of the time anyway. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
