CentOS7 Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Support

Post by DatZ » 2019/08/17 12:24:55

Hello all,
I just picked up a new Raspberry Pi 4 4GB model and got started tinkering with it right away. It seems like the Pi boots just fine with NOOBS (the recommended way to install Raspbian), but the Raspberry Pi CentOS 7 minimal image isn't giving me any display output. I posted on the Raspberry Pi forums but they seem to think this would be the better place to ask. Here's a link to the topic:

How can I tell if someone is working on this and help out if they are?
Thanks

Does it boot in CLI mode? If so, try updating to the latest kernel and see if that helps (or remove the sdcard, put it in an rpi3 and yum update there first).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

The LED lights indicated that something was wrong with the boot process. Also I don't have access to an RPi 3 :P
It looks like I might just try to get Pidora on there. I just wanted CentOS for the stability.

Quoting @pgreco,
we still don't have support for rpi4, but we'll get there.
I'm sure we hear from him more details. :)

As @toracat said, we still don't have support for it, but the work in progress is actually working :D

What we have now is a regenerated image (https://people.centos.org/pgreco/images ... sda.raw.xz) with firmware new enough to boot rpi4, but with a kernel that doesn't support it

And then a kernel https://buildlogs.centos.org/c7-exp.arm ... l7.armhfp/
If you boot an older rpi with that image, and update to the linked kernel, it should boot the rpi4
That process works, and has been tested by some (I should have my rpi4 to test in a few weeks).

With that said, today I generated a new image (https://people.centos.org/pgreco/images ... sda.raw.xz) which mixes all the bits I said before, so it should boot.

This doesn't mean that it is supported, or that it will be in the near future  , just sharing what we have so far.

Pablo.

pgreco: Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been searching for a few days to find any information on the same topic.

Did you try 'centos'?
