Video Card does not work after installation

Team,

I have Lenovo thinkstation S20 and a ATI Radeon HD3450 256MB PCIe 16x DSM59 VGA Full Size video card installed.

When I first power on the system, the video card is recognized and I can install the os using a display aconnected to it.

When I later (after several hours) try connecting a display to the card, nothing happens.

Any ideas would not be unappreciated.

btw - if I power cycle the system I get the display.

Have you tried the proprietary driver from AMD http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux

Don't compile your own drivers, they won't survive a kernel update.
Get them from elrepo.
