Configuring Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wifi adapter

Post by pepelepoe » 2015/04/14 21:04:28

Hi guys,

Just want to start by saying that I'm a total noob on linux OS. Just installed CentOS 7 on my Asus u36SG laptop via VM VirtualBox. I'm trying to install my Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wifi adapter driver, as it is not recognized by the OS by default. I was following this guide:

http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless

I ran the modprob ath9k command from the terminal and then started the Network Manager, but I still can't see the adapter on the taskbar. Also tried restarting he VM to see if it was detected. The ethernet adapter is recognized with no problem. I also tried installing the rpms directly from this page:

http://mirror.symnds.com/distributions/ ... 6_64/RPMS/

but had no success. I get an error whenever I try installing the ath9k_htc. Also found this link:

https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use ... /ath9k_htc

which states that this wifi adapter should install properly with ath9k_htc, but I'm not sure what to make of this page. Any help with be very well received. This is one of the main issues that I always have with getting more into other Linux distros and I always end up installing Ubuntu because it detects most of the hardware from the start. Thanks.

VMs see a virtual adapter. They don't have access to the real hardware, and have no knowledge of whether it is wifi or wired.
Just setup a bridge in the VM manager.

Yeah. I just realized this. Feeling like such a noob right now.... However, I might install CentOS as a dual boot. How could I install and configure the adapter if this was the case? Thanks for the reply.

For an install of CentOS 7 on real hardware, first we need to determine the device ID. Please could you show the output from:

lspci -nn

(or 'lsusb' if it is a USB device)

CentOS 7 includes the ath9k_htc driver by default, so if this is the correct driver for the device then your WiFi device should just work (you will need the 'linux-firmware' package installed as this provides the drivers firmware).
