Hi,
I just installed Centos which works approximately fine.
My problem is that I think I have played installing too many distro to try them on my PC, I can't say how much but a lot, since I like to try them and I lost my win CD....
Now I have only Debian and Centos installed which works approximately well with some graphical bugs indeed.
Every distro Ubuntu based crash immediately now can't install anymore any of them without having black screen or crash report.
I think my HDD is not well formatted during the install of the OS...there are still things remaining on it .... since it takes obviously so little time to format with gparted , I don't get how it can format anything really well?
Anything to do so ? to really clean up my HDD, and to be able to make proper install again ?
Tanks for your advice

HDD Burn out
Hi,
I installed a lot lot of different distros on my PC over the time in order to try them .
I suspect my HDD is not well formted with gparted (it takes such little time I don't understand how it can format anyhting anyway ?).
Now my distros happen to crash (all ubuntu based don't work anymore.crash/black screen ).
Centos just installed works approximately but still some bugs also (freeze, graphical problems).
Anyway to really clean up my HDD for all the mess I installed on it ? restart on very clean base ? since I suspect is the cause of my problems ??
Thanks,

Please don't cross post to different subforums. I've moved both your messages to this topic.
Formatting a partition (or rather, making a filesystem on it) is indeed a rather quick operation. There's nothing wrong with that. It just doesn't take that long to write a few megabytes to create the file system structure.

Re: HDD Burn out
Sorry I thought my first message didn't work...
I just read some stuff about the dev/zero command ...
Would this make a better job than gparted ?

Re: HDD Burn out
If you have formatted your installation partitions during install (even if it happened 'quickly'), no, dd'ing from /dev/zero to your hard disk prior to installation will not make a difference.
Re: HDD Burn out
I confirm , I did the dd thing on all my HDD but I still have problems with a new fresh install , my PC is dead for any reason, graphical card , screen , motherboard I don't know..
