unable to install CentOS 7.2 on Intel motherboard, continuously getting "BUG: soft lockup -CPU#0 stuck for 22s!" error

Hi,

i am unable to install CentOS 7.2 on my intel system. i.e.S2600STBR. when i tried in another sytem which is Dell server, it is getting installed.i tried to install CEntOS 7.6 it was installed and working fine.can anyone help to resolve this issue?

Start by NOT installing something prehistoric. The current and only supported version of CentOS 7 is 7.9. CentOS 7.2 has not been supported since the release of 7.3 in 2016.

The current and only supported version of CentOS 7 is 7.9.2009 and that is the one you should use.

There is no "7.2" or "7.6" any more. There is only one supported "CentOS Linux 7" at any given time and currently it is based on RHEL 7.9 content.

All new installs should have used the 7.9-2009 image since 2020-11-12 (and can continue to do so until June 2024). Just remember to fetch all bug and security fixes regularly.

If you can't install the 7.9, then you do have a problem.
(Note that an install from 7.6 image followed by yum update does give you the 7.9 content.)

The S2600STBR was launched in Q2 2019. Your installer for CentOS 7.2 was created in 2015, so four years before this Intel board was seeing the light. Don't expect that 7.2 recognizes this motherboard!
Actually, I am surprised that you managed to install 7.6 with this board as 7.6 dates from 2018, so still predating the motherboard.

Only the latest CentOS 7.x version is maintained and receives security updates and it is the only version that is supported in this forum.

Always install the latest version. And keep your system up-to-date. It is a dangerous world out there ...
