Not Able to download latest CentOS 7 components

Post by rmazzei » 2020/11/09 14:07:13

I am trying to get the latest software components versions announced in October to remediate vulnerabilities found. This is one example: https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/cent ... 12713.html

This example refers to CentOS 7 glibc Security Update, but when I try to use yum it doesn't retrieve the update:
# yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo

[base]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Base
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$ ... fra=$infra
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releas ... $basearch/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7

#released updates
[updates]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Updates
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$ ... fra=$infra
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releas ... $basearch/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7

#additional packages that may be useful
[extras]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Extras
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$ ... fra=$infra
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releas ... $basearch/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7

#additional packages that extend functionality of existing packages
[centosplus]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Plus
mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$ ... fra=$infra
#baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releas ... $basearch/
gpgcheck=1
enabled=0
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7

Can someone give me an advice whether if the security updates announced in October are already available for download to CentOS7 ?

They are but you are reading the CentOS CR announce and that repo is disabled by default. You need to yum --enablerepo=cr update (or edit the .repo file to enable it permanently). CR is where the packages that will be in 7.9 reside until 7.9 itself is released for real including the iso images.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.
