Upgrade OpenSSH 7.4 on CentOS 7

Post by nissaar » 2020/11/04 08:58:35

Hello,

I have CentOS 7.8.2003 and OpenSSH 7.4.

I would like to upgrade it to a higher version but it seems there are no upgrades.

I have already check my repo.

From this: https://centos.pkgs.org/7/centos-x86_64/7/ I can see that the latest package is openssh-7.4p1-21.el7.x86_64.rpm.

I would like to know if there are versions greater than 7.4 as package for CentOS 7,
if yes where to obtain it?

I know that it can be installed from source but I would like some other alternatives.

Can someone help please?

Thanks,
Regards

Don't think there is (or will ever be). Security updates will be backported:

Why do you want to update? Please see the output from rpm -q --changelog openssh to see what fixes have been applied on top of the 7.4 base.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

What is that you think is missing?

The openssh-7.4p1-21.el7 is from Aug 2019, but Red Hat has not created anything newer for RHEL 7.
If that is good enough for their paying customers, then it is good enough.

probably someone told him there is a newer version out, and both don't understand what CentOS is about (keeping the same version for the duration of the support life span).

you can't upgrade openssh, it would require a recompile of most of the operating system core...
