Getting VNC working

Hey guys,

Hoping you can help. I'm not a Linux admin by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm trying to get VNC working on a number of CentOS 7 devices

I have a number of CentOS 6.5 devices out in the field, all all it I had to do was set the password in Remote Desktop Preferences

Obviously, in CentOS 7 it's called Sharing>Screen Sharing>Enable & Remote Login = On. When I VNC the client I get 'Unable to connect to VNC Server, using your chosen security setting. Either upgrade VNC Server to a more recent version of RealVNC or select a weaker level of encryption'

I've done the 'Install and open dconf-editor, go to /org/gnome/desktop/remote-access and disable the value require-encryption'

I've tried TigerVNC Server, but I want to control the desktop being displayed on the device, not :1, :2 etc

Any ideas?

According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=987981 the vino server wants to talk TLS with the client and the only client mentioned there that works is Remmina. That's in EPEL for CentOS 7.

So the only way to connect to Centos 7 is to use Remmina client and not any VNC client?

I'm looking to connect from Windows PCs (using VNC client) to Centos 7 clients

You need a VNC client that can handle using TLS. The only one mentioned in that bug report is remmina but that doesn't mean it's the only one there is. The bug report is focused on connecting from a Linux system so they won't be looking at Windows alternatives.

Shoot, that's the issue alright. We'll have a mix of clients in the estate, so I might have to deploy Version 6 now
