I can run the Application Installer now. I suppose I'll just use that for future software updates. I don't know whether I'll get OS updates that way though. Will I?

I do not see the old Software and Software Update tools anywhere in the Application Installer, including all sub-folders within the System hierarchy. I suppose getting the old Software and Software Update tools back is no longer needed? I'll just use Application Installer exclusively from now on, and the occasional #yum.

There are two lingering problems with my desktop CentOS system though:

1) over the past three months or so, KSnapshot has stopped working. I have tried removing and re-installing it via the new Application Installer, and also tried launching it within there, and all resulted in no activity: no window pops up, no error messages appear, etc.

2) after this latest OS patch, I get a boot time message just before the desktop comes up: ioremap of the command buffer failed.

I am running an Intel NUC box with the latest i5 CPU, purchased six months ago (so, it's not the absolute latest i5 CPU), so this uses the graphics core on the CPU chip.

# yum install gnome-software
$gnome-software
or Applications > Systems Tools> Application Installer

In the poped window:
Categories> System> Other>
GNOME Package Updater (Update software installed on the system)
GNOME Packages (Add or remove software installed on the system)

I see them now. After installing them, they run just fine, just as they did before this update. Thanks.

The following log extract shows more details about the other error message I saw during boot time that I talked about earlier:

The solution did not work for me for Centos 7.

However if I were to do the following:
# yum install gnome-packagekit-updater
The option comes back with the familiar classic look.
