Ctrl-Alt-Delete not logging out-SOLVED

Post by sflower » 2014/11/05 07:10:35

Greetings,

I have installed CentOS 7 with Gnome Desktop. Going to Gnome-Control-Center>Keyboard>Shortcuts, Ctrl-Alt-Del is set by default to log out, however this key combination prompts to power off, restart or cancel. Is this discrepancy a bug? It is true there is only one user account, but I can still log out from the Gnome session using the drop down menu at upper right. Should this key combo not abide by the Gnome setting?

Thanks,

Steve

No that's picked up by the kernel (as we're going for some kind of off) and actioned, gnome doesn't even "know" that ctrl+alt+del has been hit. Unless you're running in a virtual machine, then things could be different.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not in a virtual machine. Maybe it's a gnome bug(?) and nothing to do with CentOS, but why does Gnome offer (as default, no less) Ctrl-Alt-Del as a keyboard shortcut to log out if Gnome never sees it? Admittedly this is not a major deal, but it seems less than ideal and should probably be addressed if for no other reason than perfectionism ;-)

Well I think you can change the kernel so that ctrl+alt+del is not processed there but it would be passed along to the application (like Gnome) to process.

I just checked by Gnome3 and it's there as well. Yeah, it's dumb, I guess somebody should tell Gnome. I'm not, they should know that. Perhaps they've assumed everybody has reassigned ctrl+alt+del?

I guess just reassign it. If you wanna tell Gnome, feel free.

Sensible. Thanks for the feedback. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious (or not so).
