console font changed with install of nvida drivers

Post by dave79 » 2023/01/01 16:05:52

just upgraded C7 from nouveau driver to nvidia. Almost everything work well, no problem with graphics. However, the font on the console is now too big (in my opinion). I believe what I am seeing is about 80 columns and 24 lines. I would like to see 132 columns. I have spent a fair amount of time looking for an answer to no avail. The info I have seen on the internet seems to point to editing different config files, etc. This used to be extremely simple back in Unix, now it is not. Hopefully this will make some sense. If you can help I'd be grateful.

Apparently earlier kernels/NVidia drivers were not working together and GRUB
could not pass "nice" resolution to kernel. (Latest NVidia drivers on el9 do "play nice".)

How to tell GRUB to be explicit? https://www.ondrovo.com/a/20160917-nvid ... esolution/

Like that page says, the file to edit is /etc/default/grub

The command that does regenerate grub.cfg has grub2-mkconfig,
but the location of grub.cfg does depend on whether you boot with EFI or legacy mode.
