Precision 7920|System intermittent hang up in running CentOS7

Post by linxu » 2022/12/09 03:09:04

Hi CentOS Team,

This is Lin, Xu from DELL China Tech Support Team.
Our customer purchased DELL Precision 7920, it has system intermittent hang up in running CentOS7. It’s intermittently issue, the issue might happens 1 time per month, sometimes it happens in few days.
We got sosreport from customer, but did not find the root cause.

Our internal expert who is good at Linux OS, he told me it’s suggested to collect kdump, and then have customer engaged CentOS for assistance.
So I am wondering to know what’s the process and procedure to handle the unstable/hang up issues on CentOS. What log is required. would like to get your support here, Thanks.

No-one from CentOS will look at a kdump. On CentOS you do everything yourself or it doesn't get done. If you want the sort of support where someone else will look at a kdump for you then you need to be running RHEL.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
