Failed to mount and failed to start crash recovery kernel arming

Post by takeoff9048 » 2022/10/24 12:36:37

After I restarted my machine, the machine stuck and did not let me log in. Prints out some error messages such as; "Failed to mount /." and "Failed to start Crash recovery kernel arming". After printing these messages, stucks at "Started LVM2 PV scan on device 8:2".

Any help is appreciated.

Boot the install media in rescue mode (an option off the troubleshooting menu on the initial boot screen). Check the condition of your hard disk from there using e.g. smartctl. It sounds like it's dead or dying.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Well, I don't think the disk is dead, etc. I just was able to boot into Single User Mode by following the instructions here. However, I am not sure what I need to do to fix the issue as I am kinda newbie.

Don't know the answer, but it may help if you post the output from this:
df
fdisk -l (as root)
lsblk
Also post the contents of /etc/fstab.

Post the logs or a screenshot of the problem. If using a screenshot then be aware that the real error may be further up the screen - try Shift-PgUp to scroll backwards so you can see it.

The error is off the top of the screen, Scroll up.
