[Ask] how to move raid1 on centos7 to another server

Post by Ingenetic » 2022/01/13 10:16:43

hi all,
nice to meet u here ..

i need some help and information , is that possible to move my zimbra mail server on centos 7 raid 1 (using raid from centos 7 ) to another server without reinstalling centos or zimbra it self ?

i'm using 2 hdd 4TB on that centos 7 with raid 1 xfs ,
there're 4 partition on that :
1. Root Partition ( Raid 1)
2. Swap Partition ( Raid 1)
3. Boot Partition ( Raid 1 )
4. Bios boot partition (standard partition)

NB:
for point no.4 , i have to create that partition , because if not, the centos 7 installer won't running, and it's require standard partition , if i set to Raid 1 it's said was error and the installer won't running,

now i want to move both of 2 HDD to a new server machine if possible.

please advice, how to move that hdd step by step, because i'm new on linux.

Thanks n regards,

I presume that you have backups.

What would happen, if you just take the disks from old server, connect them to new server, and boot?

An obvious issue is that config and drivers in initramfs do match the hardware of the old server which does give you some work, if new hardware is different. Still doable.
