Best of Identity and Authentication Providers

Post by macaukevin » 2021/09/17 13:35:58

Hello,

I am considering installing an Identity Provider in my new setup environment.
There are many Identity Providers in the market, such as LDAP, NIS, IPA, idM, Windows AD, etc.

Does anyone gives me a suggestion what which one is the best? Which Provider I should install?

Thank you very much
Kevin Tang.

NIS is ancient, deprecated and rather horrid.
Red Hat's idM is IPA, IPA bundles an LDAP server and a lot more
Red Hat have deprecated and stopped shipping openldap-servers in CentOS 8.
Windows AD is Windows, why would you make a linux system dependent on Windows?

You missed 389ds which is also an LDAP server.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thanks.

What do you think 389ds vs IPA?

Thanks
Kevin.
