Centos 7 - Patch Updates are not available for Jun

Post by mohan_0704 » 2021/05/26 16:34:35

I am unable to see any updates for my Centos servers:

Below is the release and the kernel version of the server:

CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core)
3.10.0-1160.25.1.el7.x86_64

I have patched this server on 2021-05-18 and there are many other servers which are patched from May 1st and now am not seeing any updates.

I do not see the updated patches in the repo as well.

Will the patches be released.? what will be the timeline of the patches getting released.?

CentOS 7 entered its final phase of maintenance a few months ago which means that 7.9 is the last point release. It also means that most updates from now on will be security related and - from experience with 5 and 6 - will get increasingly fewer over time. You can check the latest released updates by visiting the Red Hat errata page.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

First, the el7 maintenance phase should continue for three more years of solid running.

CentOS Linux is built from sources of RHEL with aim to be binary compatible with RHEL.
Until last December the natural choice after CentOS Linux 8 was CentOS Linux 8. No more.

Everybody is in the same boat now: asking where to go after CentOS Linux 7?

AlmaLinux OS (already offers stable 8.4) and Rocky Linux (still a release candidate) appeared
after December. Both have essentially same aim as CentOS Linux has had.

Red Hat did add new RHEL subscription options in February. RHEL is RHEL, not just a clone of it.

There are other RHEL-like distros too, with little bit less of the like.

The CentOS Stream is not binary compatible with RHEL.

Then there are all the distros that are not based on RHEL.
