ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure

Post by zahn-martin » 2021/04/11 11:00:19

I have strange ACPI Error Messages in dmesg:

dmesg | grep Error
[ 0.956732] ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psargs-359)
[ 0.956736] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SAT0.SPT0._GTF] (Node ffff9c567c349510), AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psparse-536)
[ 0.958037] ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psargs-359)

[ 0.958208] ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psargs-359)
[ 0.958212] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SAT0.SPT0._GTF] (Node ffff9c567c349510), AE_NOT_FOUND (20130517/psparse-536)

Do I have to worry about this messages or are they harmless ?

If you encounter errors during boot up, you can just disable all apci options in the BIOS as without them it won't make a difference while using the computer unless you must have it. There has been reports for acpi problems especially on laptops with linux distro.

I don't think it wise to disable BIOS ACPI options any more. It may have been ok about 15 years ago when ACPI was new. These days the rest of the system depends on it.

I don't see anything particularly concerning about the errors in the original post, I'd just ignore them.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
