Updating centos 7 kernal

Post by Aurora2112 » 2021/03/25 11:41:40

Hi all,

I have a centos 7 server which I use to run the fog imaging program, my organisation has taken delivery of dell 5420 laptop's, however the fog server is reporting that I need to update my kernel on my centos box to communicate with this laptop, I have updated the kernel to to 5.4.107-1.e17.elrepo, however, upon reboot it wont launch into the centos OS, i get various error messages:
tsc deadline disabled due to errata: please update microcode to version : 0x3a or later

the bios has corrupted hw-PMU resources (MSR 30d is 330)

can't read CTR while initializing 18042

psstore: Unknown compression: deflate

I have seen some posts that I shouldn't be using the elrepo kernel in a production environment, does the community know what is the best way of fixing this issue, I need to get centos 7 to launch the latest kernel to establish if these new dell machine will communicate with the fog program

Thanks

There's nothing about the "kernel" that would affect application communication unless it's a missing driver module for an ethernet card. What exactly is it complaining about?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
