desktop software update was cutoff/failed and corrupted kernel

Post by Ricus » 2020/11/16 05:37:05

I am not really sure where to start, so any instruction will be appreciated.

When I was shutting down my home system I checked the box to allow updates. The system seemed to freeze and do nothing for 10 minutes. I stupidly went ahead and shut it down. Now the latest kernel won't boot. I am running the second most recent kernel.

Here are the results from uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 3.10.0-1127.19.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 25 17:23:54 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and rpm -q kernel
kernel-3.10.0-1127.8.2.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-1127.10.1.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-1127.13.1.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-1127.18.2.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-1127.19.1.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.10.0-1160.2.2.el7.x86_64

I was considering deleting the last kernel to be installed and updating. Or trying to update to version 8.
Please advise on how to proceed.Thnx!

yum reinstall kernel-3.10.0-1160.2.2.el7.x86_64
Or trying to update to version 8.
There is no upgrade from 7 to 8. It's a reinstall.
