I've got a user missing the logout button in mate desktop - another user with the same mate packages installed does have the logout button.
I've scoured the "Workspace appearance and behavior" settings and the "Common appearance and behavior" settings in the mate console, but haven't found any way to configure the logout button setting.
I've also found several old posts with a google search, but they don't seem to apply to the current version of mate desktop.
The version of mate running is 1.16.2-1, CentOS version 7.8

Re: logout button missing in mate desktop
Right click the panel, choose Add to Panel, scroll down the list until you see "Shutdown", add it.

Re: logout button missing in mate desktop
I had the user try that, but they had no option for "Logout".
I had them try "mate-session-save --logout" from a commandline and they got an error "Failed to call logout; Logout has been locked down"
??
