"At least 1MB more space needed on the /mnt filesystem"

Post by nafmo » 2020/07/30 10:43:11

Hi!

If I have a DVD-ROM mounted on /mnt, I get this error from RPM when trying to install a specific RPM (it is commercial, so I cannot supply it here). The RPM itself does not contain any files in /mnt, nor is /mnt mentioned in any of the package scripts.

If I unmount /mnt, the install proceeds without errors, and /mnt is not touched.

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be that is going on?

Answering myself here. Apparently I was not googling the correct error message.

It seems that Red Hat recommends not mounting things on /mnt as it is being used by the automounter.

That makes sense.

findmnt does not show anything listening on /tmp
(Then again, it does not show anything on /run/media/username/ either, where Gnome desktop automounts USBs, etc. nor on /media)

I have both static fstab and systemd.automount mounts on /mnt/xxx with no problems.

/etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Media.repo has

Code: Select all

baseurl=file:///media/CentOS/
        file:///media/cdrom/
        file:///media/cdrecorder/
so either system does automount under /media, or user is expected to mount some ISO there (if copy of repos is on media is to be used).

When you boot with installer (to install or to rescue), it does mount on-disk system on /mnt/sysimage and has other volumes mounted on /mnt/yyy as well and I think I've seen in that context a warning not to mount directly on /mnt, but that is a special case.

... well, perhaps not so special.
