Stuck in loop when logging in

Hi everyone!

I just installed the CUDA 10.1 on a server yesterday and rebooted it. Now I'm stuck in the login screen. More specificly, after inputing the username, the screen remains wating for username rather than asking for the password, whichever user I type in including root.

I'm not using GUI but the command line. I have tried all methods I can search online but none works. Moreover, when I try to ssh into the server, the feedback is 'Authentication failed'.

Any help will be appreciated!

If you cannot log in then you'll have to boot from alternative media (the install DVD in rescue mode?) and read your logs on the installed system.

Does runlevel 1 still work, and if so, could that be used?

Actually I have tried to runlevel 1, but most of orders such as uninstalling CUDA end with 'Segmentation fault'.

I have read the logs 'var/log/secure' and 'var/log/messages' in single user mode and nothing unusual. Is this the same?
