That looks like the stacktrace you get when the kerne you select has no matching initramfs file in /boot. Use yum reinstall on that specific kernel to get it to have another go at it!
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

Hmm.. It seems to be a issue of kernel modules which are not loaded properly or the latest kernel does not have the supported modules available. But in my case, I still can't find the solution to boot up the server from previous kernels. It directly shows up the panic screen after reboot. It might be a bug and we don't have any option to fix this on vm machine which is hosted on Azure.. :(

There is a known bug where yum gets interrupted in mid-flight. It adds the parameters to grub.cfg in 2 passes - the first adds the kernel entry, the 2nd adds the initramfs entry for that same kernel. If yom is interrupted between those two you get an unbootable kernel listed in the grub menu because the initramfs file is missing or corrupt. Check if /boot/initramfs-$kernelversion exists. If not then yum reinstall that particular kernel by full package name including version number. Or use dracut to create it.

Hi,

I can't see log correctly in the capture image. but, a system call raised kernel panic. I can not see exact system call name. I know system_call_fastpath is in the log.

And it would show a package name and version but, could not what is. Sorry.

Yes, that was the fault in my case. Performed yum update over the network and looks like it disconnected mid flight leaving yum and the kernel install in a bad state.

Resolving the partial yum update didn’t resolve but removing the new kernel and then re-updating the kernel cleanly using yum resolved my specific issue.

Thanks Trevor, but in my case yum was not interrupted because I keep hitting enter key after few intervals and it was successfully installed the updates without any errors. The issue arises when I reboot the server and look at the console in Azure, it says kernel panic and the sad part is that I am unable to boot the server from previous kernel as it doesn't show the grub screen to choose from previous kernel.

Thanks Andrew. I think due to the default timeout in sshd_config file these updates gets interrupted mid way. I have never seen this issue with redhat which is also running the same kernel versions and provides updates. Nevertheless, I found a fix for this.. Once the updates started on the server, you have to keep hitting a key (enter key) for short intervals to make the session active and then updates will be installed successfully. I have also notice that the updates were stuck mid-way during the kmod module update. Server was stuck for almost 15-20mins at this point in time but if the session is active, it will surely be completed.

https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3615811 says that symev thing is part of some Symantec anti-virus solution. Contact them and ask.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
