10 TB hdd not recognised

Post by Blisk » 2019/11/22 17:13:12

I put PCIe SATA 3 controller which support linux in my server today and 2 10TB hard disks.
I can see it in bios but in Centos 7.6 there is none of it.
Centos is already installed on other disks.
Any idea?

Post the output from dmesg | grep -E "ata|sd"
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

there should be 9 disks but system recognise only 7.

dmesg | grep -E "ata|sd"

Several things there:
[ 6.681640] ata12.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x4)
You get those on ata12 and ata16 and ata9. Your disks are not responding. How sure are you that they are working? Do they sound like they are spinning? How sure are you that the controller that you have plugged them into supports disks of that size? Or that the controller has linux support in the CentOS kernel?

You've got a lot of kernel errors in your log that you should look at.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

This is controler and it support linux and also 10TB hard disk.
https://www.kmsoltec.com/en/sata-esata/ ... 93959.html
kernel errors are mostly because of CPU, it is AMD ryzen 7.

I found out this controller supports only kernel 3.2 and higher.

So since CentOS 7 uses kernel 3.10 and 10 > 2, that's ok.
